Can Anybody I.D. these plants

Sometimes I have trouble finding the name of plants that grow in the yard. For example, there is this large fungus that popped up after some heavy rainstorms. It looks similar to a bracket fungus, but those usually grow on the side of a stump. this one was growing on a dead tree root.

The other plant is called a summer poinsettia in this area, but we were unable to find it in a book of southern plants. It grows tall and green for most of the summer, but then in August, it develops those reddish-orange spots. It makes seeds and comes up all over the place. We often have it invade pots of other flowers.

Contact me through this site if you can identify either of these.
